The premiere in Tallinn of the American documentary maker Josh Aronson’s film Sound and Fury took place on 8 December 2010 as a result of co-operation between Audiere, Kumu Documentaries and the Sõprus cinema.
The film tells the story of a four-year old deaf girl, Heather, who one day informs her deaf parents that she wants to get a cochlear implant and thus become a hearer. The parents resist the idea and a series of conflicts occur between the deaf family and their relatives, who are hearers. The film is a vivid reflection of the collision of two worlds, that of hearers and that of deaf people: it lucidly demonstrates how implants have changed our world. The film was nominated for an Academy Award in the documentary category in 2000.
